Introduction: 2026 is a “Golden Year” for Meteor Shower Observation!
Did you know, camping car owners, that 2026 is an exceptional year for stargazing? According to the National Astronomical Observatory of Japan, both the Perseids meteor shower (August) and the Geminids meteor shower (December) can be observed under “ideal conditions” with almost no moonlight interference—a rare occurrence indeed.
The Shikoku and Kyushu regions offer ideal environments for stargazing, with high-altitude areas away from urban light pollution and coastlines with open views of the southern sky. Furthermore, many spots allow you to observe the stars right from your parking space with a camping car, and you can stay warm inside your vehicle even during cold winter observations.
In this article, we introduce stargazing spots in Shikoku and Kyushu that are easily accessible by camping car and suitable for overnight stays and observation, organized by prefecture.
